Hello..
This may sound a bit strange, but I live in NYC and subway to work. ?I have no need for a car Mon-Fri. ?On the weekends, I rent cars often for trips. ?I am debating whether it would be smarter to just buy a car instead of continually renting (I will park the car out of the city to reduce parking costs).
Please let me know if you have any suggestions for SUVs that fit the following criteria?
1) The car must be reliable enough to withstand sitting for up to two weeks without use and reliably start. ?The car will be kept in a garage.
2) ?I do not care what the car looks like and MPG is a small concern.
3) ?I have enough saved that I could theoretically purchase a car up to 30k, though I would feel silly about this since I am only using it on weekends. ?Also, I am not convinced that I will use the car enough for its purchase to be worthwhile. ?A car or year that would keep some residual value if I changed my mind would be perfect. ?Ideally I will spend under 10k for this car (again, look does not matter, only that it works).
4) ?Is it smarter to lease a car so that I can get the reliability of a newer car without shelling out 30k? ?Or from an investment perspective, is it better to buy a new car and sell it later?
Thanks. ?
