iMore is now hiring: World's best news, app, and accessory writers wanted!

We're not going lie -- blogging is one of the best jobs in the world, and blogging about Apple is one of the best jobs in blogging. You get to dive deep into all the technology, apps, and accessories you love, and you get paid to do it. But here's the thing -- it's not easy. Almost anyone can write a post. Very few can write creatively, quickly, and most important, consistently, day in, day out. If you're one of those few, we'd love for you to join the iMore and Mobile Nations team.

We're looking for people who can find and craft absolutely the best stuff to post about and post about it in absolutely the best looking, most readable and relatable way possible. We don't want to cover everything, we want to cover what matters the most.

  • News writer: You love everything that's interesting about Apple and know how to sort the real stories from the rubbish rumors. You don't just regurgitate but you have a knack for context and a talent for finding fresh, creative angles. You can explain what a story is, what it means, and why it matters in a way that's compelling for fellow geeks yet accessible for mainstream readers. You're a machine, but one with a ton of heart.

  • App writer: Whether it's the latest To-Do software or the sequel to the hottest game ever, you can quickly digest it, figure out what's great, what's not so great, and write it up powerfully and succinctly. You're comfortable approaching and talking to developers, and are able to sort through the deluge of new and update apps that hit the store, ditch the duds, and find the gems that'll make our readers lives better, or just more fun. You understand embargoes, NDAs, and deadlines, but most of all, you love apps and love helping others get the most out of them. (Massive bonus points if you're also adept at music, productivity, business software, and/or hardcore gaming.)

  • Accessory writer: You always have the latest iPhone and iPad and are constantly on the lookout for the best cases, chargers, stands, keyboards, stylus pens, and everything in-between and above and beyond. You have a great eye for detail and can rapidly assess fine points and flaws alike. You understand the difference between cost and value, and can determine not just whether something is good or not, but for what kind of user. You're happy talking to manufacturers and their PR reps, and are capable of producing high quality, hands-on videos and photography.

  • How-to writer: You're the person friends and family ask "how do I--" and you're the person who invariably has the answer. You're a teacher, trainer, tester, and tinkerer all rolled into one, and you're able to break down complex tasks into easy to follow steps. You're not just there to provide directions, but to help people get more our of their devices and apps. You're excellent at finding hidden features and creative workarounds alike, and even better at sharing what you find. You know how to leverage a community for help, and how to help a community right back.

No experience is necessary, but the more experience you have, the better. Blogging is awesome, but it's an incredible amount of work. You need to want to be great, to take enormous pride in your work, to never settle for second best, and to never, not ever miss a deadline.

If we've just described you, and you just know you'd be a perfect fit, here's what to do:

  • Send an email to news@imore.com with one of the following Subject lines:
    • News writer application
    • App writer application
    • Accessory writer application
    • How-to writer application
  • Include your basic information:
    • Who you are
    • Where you are
    • Your contact info
    • What kind of schedule you can work
    • Why you want to write for iMore
  • Include samples:
    • Original work only
    • Short, informational features only (not looking for editorials or features here).
    • Written in the iMore style
    • Plain text only, no attachments
    • (Seriously, attachments will cause your email to be filtered out before we get it.)

Please do follow directions exactly, it's vitally important in blogging. We won't be able to get back to everyone, but if you look like a good fit, we'll get back to you asap.

iMore is looking for a few great writers. Are you one of them?

Mitt Romney gestures during remarks to volunteers working at the Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado to distribute food to those affected by the wild fire at the on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 in Colorado Springs, Colo. (AP Photo/Evan Vucci)

(AP) ? Mitt Romney isn't going to win the black vote. But he's making a pitch to African-Americans at the NAACP's annual meeting, giving a major speech that's also aimed at showing independent and swing voters that he's willing to reach out to diverse audiences ? and demonstrating that his campaign and the Republican Party he leads are inclusive.

Romney's advisers say he plans to focus, as he usually does, on the economy. The 14.4 percent unemployment rate among blacks is much higher than the 8.2 percent national average. He's also likely to mention his plan to increase school choice ? he's called education the "civil rights issue of our era."

It's a difficult sell ? 95 percent of blacks backed President Barack Obama in 2008. But no matter what Romney tells the NAACP on Wednesday, Republicans and Democrats say he's making a statement just by speaking to the nation's oldest civil rights group.

"The first thing you need to do is show up, so I ultimately think he's doing the right thing," said Rep. Tim Scott, R-S.C., one of two black Republicans in Congress. "What he's saying to everyone is that he's (running to become) America's president and not just those folks he thinks he can get votes from right now. I think that's a very important statement."

"You've got to get credit for showing up ? for being willing to go ? no question," said Karen Finney, a Democratic consultant who worked in the Clinton White House. "It's more about your actions than it is about what you say."

Obama spoke to the group during his 2008 campaign, as did his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain. Obama doesn't plan to speak this year ? instead, Vice President Joe Biden will address the annual convention on Thursday. Obama plans to address the Urban League later this month.

Romney rarely speaks to a predominantly black audience at political events. One exception was a May visit to a charter school in Philadelphia, where he cast fixing the education system as a way to help blacks and other minorities.

In framing education as a civil rights issue, Romney is following in George W. Bush's footsteps. At a sweeping address to the NAACP in 2000, Bush, then the Republican presidential nominee, said the education system should "leave no child behind" ? and he labeled the "soft bigotry of low expectations" as part of the problem facing black students.

The likely 2012 Republican nominee has a personal history with civil rights issues. Romney's father, George, spoke out against segregation in the 1960s and as governor of Michigan toured his state's inner cities as race riots wracked Detroit and other urban areas across the country. He went on to lead the Housing and Urban Development Department, where he pushed for housing reforms to help blacks.

Mitt Romney invoked that legacy during a 2007 interview on NBC's "Meet the Press": "My dad's reputation ... and my own has always been one of reaching out to people and not discriminating based upon race or anything else."

In recent months, Obama has approached race from an intensely personal perspective. After the shooting of unarmed black teen Trayvon Martin in a Florida neighborhood ? an act many blacks saw as racially motivated ? Obama spoke directly to Martin's parents from the Rose Garden. "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon," Obama said.

Diminished enthusiasm for the president in the wake of the economic downturn could dampen black turnout. And that could make the difference in Southern states Obama won in 2008, particularly North Carolina and Virginia.

Other factors could keep blacks away from voting booths. Romney's address to the group comes as Democrats and minority communities are expressing concern over a series of tough voter identification laws in a handful of states. Critics say the laws could make it harder for blacks and Hispanics to vote.

"He'll be standing in that room asking people for their votes at the same time that Republican legislators are trying to disenfranchise minority communities," said Finney, the Democratic consultant.

Romney expressed support for such laws during a late April visit to Pennsylvania, which now has one of the toughest voter identification statutes in the nation. "We ought to have voter identification so we know who's voting and we have a record of that," Romney said then.

http://paulsheider.multiply.com/journal/item/15/Micron-Associates-5-Tips-to-face-your-Personal-Finances-during-Bankruptcy
1.Consult your credit counselor.
Credit counseling can help you understand the importance of filing bankruptcy, and you may learn ways to avoid future bankruptcies. Credit counseling may be required before you can file bankruptcy. Counselors normally review the information you provide and offer suggestions based on the information.
2.Make familiar with your debts.
Here, you may surrender with your assets in bankruptcy, reiterate debt and liberate debt. When you inspect your personal finances, consider the debt that won?t be discharged during bankruptcy. Keep a list of the companies that are included in your bankruptcy and sort your bills based on the list.
3.Meet with a financial advisor or CPA.
Professionals in both these fields can reconcile your bank statements, help you establish a budget and provide you with investment and tax advice. Disclose all financial information to them so that they can do their jobs.
4.Create a budget plan and set realistic goals for every category.
Stop paying for debts that are included in your bankruptcy. Be sure you make payments for assets, such as your house or car, which you will keep after filing for bankruptcy. Include future payments for student loans that may currently be in deferment or leniency.
5.Pay for all purchases with a debit card or check.
This way all your transactions show on your bank statement and you can track your spending. Micron Associates also suggest allocating each transaction into your budget categories. And, use your bank statement to reconcile your account and make adjustments to your future budgets as needed.

Electrical Wiring, Components, and the Water Damage Threat - How to

Every house will encounter water damage at some point, and some of that may be significant. With electrical wiring running through each room in our homes, the potential for further complications becomes clear. Water can wreck electrical systems, and even the best case situations may require substantial cleaning, repair, and inspection prior to a given component may be used again.

If you are facing a flood or other severe weather event, there is always the likelihood you may have to leave your residence. Know where the electrical box is so that you will be able to shut off all electricity at the source. Electrical items should be moved to higher levels in the home. Larger gadgets such as washer/dryers or refrigerators may be elevated as much as probable. Every little bit helps.

Power outlets and the aforementioned electrical box can also be moved to higher levels on the wall; an average of 12 inches over any projected flood levels really should do it. This sort of work should always be carried out by a qualified electrician.

After any sort of water damage, reconnecting the power may have to be properly authorized by your local power organization, and this authorization may only come after any repairs have been manufactured and proper documentation has been submitted.

Electrical items damaged by water should not be reactivated until they have been properly inspected, since there is a chance of really serious injury or fire. Any items that have been totally submerged should be trashed ; it will cost more to attempt and repair them than it would to basically replace them.

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GCFI) are inexpensive devices that can be used to help prevent the likelihood of electrical shock when working with appliances or pumps.

Your home?s electrical wiring may perhaps also require replacement relying on the type of wire used, the age of the wire, and the degree of the damage. In many cases where damage is not readily apparent, replacement might still be the favored selection.

A licensed electrician is the tech of choice when it comes to right evaluation of your property?s electrical concerns, what should be replaced, and what may be restored. Any devices that are thrown out must be destroyed in order to stop somebody else from attempting to re-activate them.

Electrical problems as the end result of water damage should always be taken significantly, and treated with the ultimate care and caution. Failure to do so may result in further damage to the household or critical injury to the occupants.

Chinese Group to Buy Hawker Beechcraft

Financial Times | July 09, 2012 | 09:44 PM EDT

Hawker Beechcraft, the troubled jet maker owned by Goldman Sachs Capital Partners and Onex, has agreed to sell itself to a Chinese aviation company for $1.79 billion.

The potential sale to aerospace manufacturer Superior Aviation Beijing could secure Hawker?s future after it filed for bankruptcy protection this year. Superior would keep Hawker Beechcraft?s existing operations, the Kansas-based company said in a statement on Monday.

Goldman and Onex, the Canadian private equity firm, bought Hawker Beechcraft in 2007 for $3.3 billion, loading the company up with debt at the height of the market for business jets. The industry has suffered since the onslaught of the financial crisis, with global sales of general aviation aircraft tumbling from 4,272 in 2007 to about 1,865 last year, causing the company to struggle to repay its creditors.

Hawker in May filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and began reviewing options, including continuing as a standalone business or an outright sale. A reorganization plan filed in June would give control of the company to secured creditors, canceling out the equity stakes owned by Goldman and Onex.
